PATHWAYS TO WELLNESS

Dr Cobb began her alternative medicine journey in 2005 and has been offering acupuncture, Chinese herbals and chiropractic care to the community ever since. She is currently available on Thursdays from 10-5 for alternative medicine. Pathways to Wellness no longer offers conventional care other than Spay/Neuter care through Ace of Spays.

If you are interested in an appointment or more information, please call the office Monday-Friday between 9am and 5pm at 609-267-6770.

Non-Force Chiropractic

Dr. Cobb finds chiropractic work extremely gratifying. It can make life-saving changes in the lives of dogs with back pain. Subluxated vertebrae cause severe pain that is often misdiagnosed as disc disease. Dogs with this condition often respond with a single treatment, arriving shivering in pain and leaving with wagging tails.

Chiropractic is also helpful for disc disease, especially when combined with acupuncture. The gentle technique used at Pathways to Wellness will do no harm. Dr. Cobb can show you just how gentle it is before proceeding.

Acupuncture

Though well known for relief of musculoskeletal problems, acupuncture can be used for any disease process. We commonly treat pets with issues like disc disease, hip dysplasia, arthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney disease and anxiety disorders. We have also treated many other conditions from heart to liver to skin.

Acupuncture takes multiple sessions to be effective. Please plan to come weekly for at least 4 sessions. At that time, Dr. Cobb will discuss discontinuing treatment, continuing treatment and/or spreading treatment intervals. She tends to treat weekly until pets reach a plateau and then extend the intervals between treatments to maintain the results.

Dr. Cobb needs to become familiar with your pet prior to making an acupuncture treatment plan. Immediately preceding the first acupuncture session, she will need to examine your pet to make a treatment plan. For musculoskeletal problems that have already been diagnosed (your vet knows what is causing the pain), you can opt for a basic exam as she can use formulas directed at that problem without doing a formal Chinese medical exam.

For medical conditions, Dr. Cobb requires a full hour appointment to do a complete traditional Chinese veterinary medical (TCVM) Exam. In this sessions, she will learn more about the underlying issues causing your pets medical problems. Her point formulas are aimed at treating the immediate concern and bringing your pets energy into balance. Though not required for musculoskeletal problems, some clients opt for this complete TCVM exam instead of the basic exam.

Chinese Herbals

Chinese herbals can be used for any disease process. Sometimes conventional medicine works better. Sometimes Chinese herbs work better. And sometimes, a combination of the two gives the best results. Though useful for all disease processes, Dr. Cobb especially enjoys using herbals for cancer, pain, and gastrointestinal and kidney issues. As an example, herbals are a fantastic option for urine leakage and can often be used instead of conventional medications that can have side effects.

There are some conditions where conventional medications are superior to herbs. These include diabetes, hyperthyroidism and seizure disorders, though herbs are sometimes used to decrease the doses of conventional medications or to support the body while on conventional medications.

Dr. Cobb requires an hour consultation prior to dispensing Chinese herbals with periodic 30-minute recheck appointments to assess whether changes are needed.
